With Automile, you can merge consecutive trips based on time or distance travelled by the vehicle. A trip is defined when the vehicle's engine is turned off however there are cases where your business would want to merge some trips even if those stops happen.
There are two options for merging trips:
a) Maximum number of minutes: Let's say you set the merge to max 10 minutes, this means that any 2 trips with a stoppage time of less than 10 minutes between them will be merged into one trip.
b) Maximum trip distance: Let's say you set the merge to max .5 miles, this means that any trip with a distance of less than .5 miles will be merged to the previous trip.
Here is how this works!
1. Navigate to your left hand menu nav bar and click on "Vehicles."
2. Next, find the vehicle you would like to merge trips for. Click on the drop down to the right of the vehicle and select "Edit."
3. Once "Edit" has been selected. Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the wording "Merge Trips Automatically." Once there, click the toggle to move it to "Yes."
4. You now have the option to simply input how much time or distance you would like between trips. As explained above, if you select to merge trips with 3 minutes between them, this means that anytime a car is stopped for less than 3 minutes before moving again it will combine those two trips. OR is the distance travelled is within .5 miles and there are multiple stops during that time, then it will merge those trips.
Congrats! You are now setup to merge trips for ease of reporting!
