When an Asset Tracker moves, it switches from the Awaiting Movement (Standby) mode into Tracking mode. During Tracking mode the device updates GPS location, and the frequency of those GPS updates are determined by what you've set the Update Interval as. For example, if you set the Update Interval to 5 minutes, the Asset Tracker will update GPS location once every 5 minutes while in Tracking mode.
When the Asset Tracker stops moving, there is a Timeout Period where the device will continue to stay in Tracking mode for a period of time before going into Awaiting Movement (Standby). During this Timeout Period, the device's status will show as 'Tracking' and any movement of the Tracker during this time will be a part of the same tracking event.
The Timeout Period depends on the Update Interval that you've set. The basic formula for this is [Timeout Period = Update Interval + 8 Minutes]. For example, if you set the Update Interval to 1 minute, the device will stay in Tracking mode for 1 minute + 8 minutes (9 minutes total) after the final movement. After 9 minutes of no movement, the tracking event will end, and the Asset Tracker will change to Awaiting Movement (Standby) until it is moved again.
Here is a table of the different Update Intervals and their corresponding Timeout Periods:
